PROJECT SCOPE

FAQs

Are there additional ways I can give to this initiative besides cash?

Be creative as you explore ways you and your family can give towards this initiative. You might have some stocks, property, or other items of that nature. Or you may have some stored resources that God has blessed you with in the past that he just might be calling you to give out of during this time. Please contact Dave Bowersox at dbowersox@hillschurch.online if you would like to discuss this opportunity more specifically.

What is the timeline on the Green River Building Project?

The project is due to start at the end of 2021 and will be completed by Easter April 9, 2023.

How do we handle debt responsibly?

The bible doesn’t teach that debt is a sin…but it does teach that debt is very dangerous. We understand the need to handle any debt with great wisdom. Church extension funds across the country, as a standard, do not want to see debt as more than 35% of a church budget. We anticipate keeping the church debt at 25% or lower of the overall budget at the end of Take The Hills.

Why are we spending 7 million dollars on a building instead of giving it to the poor?

The investment into facilities allows the church to continue to grow. The potential for influencing more people to use their time, talents and resources to make an impact on the poor and reach people for Christ is exciting. God has placed The Hills Church in a unique position to engage the people in our communities to live a Christ centered life and make a difference in the world around them.

What’s next after this?

We are looking ahead and making plans on what we can confidently move forward in for this next season at The Hills. This building is Phase 1 in a bigger master plan to give Evansville the biggest gift it’s ever received - a community center built for all people. Phase 2 will be even better than the first.  Phase 2 will be great, but we can’t get there without the Phase 1 project.

What happened to the original building project?

The original building cost and design fit the church prior to the pandemic. However, as we sit now, the project cost would put our church in a tough financial position. Our primary goal of the Take the Hills Campaign is to be in a building of our own and be available to serve the community and our church seven days a week with a facility as opposed to renting one day a week, which opens the doors for mid-week ministries, youth services, bible studies, and small groups. The original building is still in the master plan, but this phase is needed in order to get us there.

What happens to this building after that?

The current building being constructed will be used to house all our ministries until Phase 2 is ready. At that point, it will be turned into a sports and recreation facility for the future community center. Think basketball, racquetball, pickleball, badminton, and many other activities our community needs. On second thought, there will be no badminton allowed.
